The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a leading voice in animal welfare specializing in animal rescue and protection, teamed up with San Jacinto County Animal Control to provide relief efforts to victims affected by floods. The floods, which severely affected San Jacinto County in Texas, prompted the ASPCA to mobilize its disaster response team to provide on-site emergency response and assess needs within the community. The ASPCA also assisted with the provision of key pet donations such as food, carriers, pet crates, and water bowls, which were distributed throughout the community.
According to Susan Anderson, director of ASPCA disaster response, transferring displaced animals away from the disaster zone and offering critical supplies for affected homeowners ensured families affected by floods received the support they needed to stay with their beloved pets. The collaboration between the ASPCA and San Jacinto County Animal Shelter also facilitated the evacuation of around 20 shelter animals in the county in order to generate more space to accommodate displaced pets. Animals that were relocated included those that didn’t have owners and were accommodated at one of the organization’s recovery facilities, where they are to be monitored until they’re ready for adoption.
